A 24-year-old man was arrested early Wednesday morning after running across Highway 99 trying to avoid deputies, according to the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies tried to stop a suspicious-looking vehicle that matched the description of a vehicle that was seen on Raymond Court in Morada shortly after 4 a.m., deputies said. When deputies saw the vehicle, they tried to stop the driver, who was going west on Morada Lane near Highway 99.
According to a sheriff's report, the driver, Russell Heinl, sped south on the eastern frontage road, then pulled over, got out of the vehicle and ran west across Highway 99. He was taken into custody a short time later.
Deputies said they found what appeared to be a shaved or altered key in the ignition, bolt cutters and a large steel file.
Heinl was booked into San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp on suspicion of possession of burglary tools, resisting arrest and several California Vehicle Code violations.
