The Galt Police Department will join 36 other law enforcement agencies in the Sacramento region during the holiday season to enforce a state law prohibiting use of a hand-held cellphone or texting while driving.

Galt police and other agencies will be out in force between Nov. 30 and Dec. 9 to issue tickets to drivers using a hand-held phone or texting, according to Lt. Brian Vizzusi.

Distracted drivers in Galt talking on a hand-held cellphone or sending text messages will receive a first-time ticket costing a minimum of $159, with a second offense costing $279.

Nationally, 3,092 people were killed and an estimated 416,000 others were injured in motor vehicle crashes involving a distracted driver in 2010.

California highway patrol claims more people will be killed and injured by 'distracted' cell phone users than by 'alcohol and drug users'
I see Cellphone companies have changed the 'talking point' from "USING the cell phone while driving" to "DISTRACTED while driving".

Either way there are so many folks watching their cell phone screen giving TICKETS for this DANGEROUS behavior that 10 full time ticket givers will be hard at work 24/7, giving tickets.

With a smooth system I think each 'ticket giver' will generate $600 per hour.

Each " TG" (ticket giver) will cost $80 per hour for truck, wage and health bennies. Giving our local city or county $520 to help with children s programs.
Can we make this happen dispite the cell phone companies sweeping this whole thing under the rug.
