State Sen. Tom Berryhill, R-Oakdale, said he opposes Senate Bill 104, which would remove secret ballots for agricultural laborers to organize and instead permit them to join a union if a majority of the crew signs cards.
"SB 104 is a blatant attempt by union bosses to gain more power on the backs of dedicated and hardworking Californians," said Berryhill, who represents the Lodi area. "Eliminating the workers' rights to a secret ballot is nothing more than the very intimidation these union bosses are claiming to oppose. SB 104 removes a fundamental right to secret ballot for which workers have relied upon and fought."
