Lodi firefighters will shave their heads in front of Fire Station 1 on Sunday morning as part of their Pink October fundraising efforts for breast cancer treatment and research.
Lodi firefighter Kris Graves encouraged the community to take pictures, donate money and even get their heads shaved at the event. The fundraiser starts at 9 a.m. Sunday at Fire Station 1, 210 W. Elm St.
"The idea is to identify with those who are losing their hair with chemo," Graves said. "I know there are several fire department members who are willing to shave their heads if the price is right."
The Lodi Professional Firefighters Association is holding multiple fundraisers for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
The firefighters are also wearing pink T-shirts around town, and the public is able to purchase one for $12.
Shirts are for sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at any of the Lodi fire stations and at the department's administration building at 25 E. Pine St.
Station locations are 210 W. Elm St., 705 E. Lodi Ave., 2141 S. Ham Lane and 180 N. Lower Sacramento Road.
The firefighters will also have another giveback night at Chili's Grill & Bar, 2745 W. Kettleman Lane. Firefighters will be at the restaurant on Wednesday to collect donations, and servers will be wearing the pink shirts.
Chili's will also donate 15 percent of meal purchases to the nonprofit when customers bring in a flyer for the giveback day. Flyers will be available on the "Lodi Professional Firefighters" Facebook page or at Station 1 at 210 W. Elm St.
