Dogs-From one to another please don't take this the wrong way...Huh? I've spent many a time on the range and can't remember the RM making sure no live ammo "came off the range". How did it get to the range in the first place? Have you ever been to a public or Non-Military range? Officers or the public are responsible for supplying their own ammo. Trust me as a former member of the BOD at SVSC in Ione (the largest range in the Valley at just over 900 acres, including 1000m, etc.) the last thing I want is our RM to be inspecting bags.Besides the best safety is your finger. When your fellow Marine died it wasn't because of ammo being in the rifle, it was the finger on the trigger.

HA! So many lies in this articles it's unbelievable. Sounded good though.....That $70K contract has been in place for two years ALREADY and it's guaranteed money for Galt whether CDCR uses that range or not. The article failed to mention the ADDITIONAL cost to actually USE IT for that day. It is TYPICAL of the majority of state contracts in that it's a total waste of money. CDCR is basically guaranteeing that Galt will be able to renovate it's range to accomodate the CDCR academy needs.

Leonard: your cool for that, thanks.pre$$ure$on: Apology accepted, had that M-1 been pointed a few feet in an another direction, that other Marine could have been me. A tragic accident.

leonard, you're correct. I apologize to dogs and all regular bloggers here for my uncalled for remark. Have a great day all, I will be off to church and a stop at the confessional is on my schedule. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

$3 Million Dollars??? let's see - there's a better range at Elk Grove and another in Linden and they are $12 a day. And I bet they will drop the price for police. Let's say $8 for police. 3 Million divided by 8 = 1,027 officers can practice every day for a year. How about Galt and Lodi only - 50 officers can practice every other day for 40 years. ALL DAY 3 times a week 100 Officers for 90 years. Is it just me?

If there is to be a gun range, the first order of business is to have a range master to make sure there are no live rounds carried off the range. Many years ago a fellow Marine died coming of the range as a result of another Marine not having the bolt open on his M-1 for inspection, he was sitting only a few feet away from me as I watched him die. You can never be to carefull and the rules must be strictly enforced.

Don't get into bed with the CDC! They do the same thing they did out at SVSC run by the Folsom Shooting Club. They'll use and abuse it, all the while shoving the "contract" in your face.I was on the BOD there and it was our biggest mistake ever!

There's also a gun range at Rio Cosumnes Correctional just west of Elk Grove where many peace officers train and qualify for their firearms certifications. I'm with tjeff, make it a public range and create a full time job for the range master.

Gee...I don't know here is an Idea maybe make a section open to the public and then advertise...maybe have some gun safety and shoot classes at the range for the public. Really aren't enough good ranges around here any way. Bet you could easily break even and then make money.
