A crowd of people surrounded a green SUV that sped out of control and crash into a garage along Century Boulevard near Tokay High School Wednesday.

Witnesses said the SUV was following a vehicle at a high rate of speed near the intersection of Ham Lane and Century Boulevard around 5 p.m., according to Lodi Police Officer Eric Bradley.

When the car tried to pull over to the right, the SUV tried to pass on the left. The SUV clipped the left side of the car then swerved to the right but overcorrected, Bradley said.

The SUV drove over a sidewalk, through a fence, over a small tree and into the side of the garage where a Porsche Boxer was parked inside.

No one was injured and the Porsche only sustained minor scratches and dents to its front end.

The SUV remained entirely submerged inside the garage when police and firefighters arrived. The adjacent apartment complex didn’t sustain any damage.

It’s not believed that alcohol was involved.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
