The Salvation Army bells are ringing and gift tags await their turn to be plucked off the angel trees in local stores.
As the holiday season begins, local nonprofits are gearing up to help those in need. Families who sign up for help with food or toys may only sign up for one organization. Here is where help is needed:
The Salvation Army: The Salvation Army is gathering toys and food to distribute during the week of Dec. 16. Donations of any unwrapped toys are being accepted for young children up to age 14. Food is also being accepted for the food baskets. The deadline to bring in toys is Dec. 13. For more information, call 209-369-5896.
Lodi Adopt A Child: Lodi Adopt-A-Child has angel tags available for gifts, or cash donations may be made. The deadline for gifts is Dec. 16. For more information, call 209-333-1056.
Lodi Community Service Center: The Lodi Community service center needs food for families who sign up. Sign-ups are happening now. Those who sign up need to bring a picture ID, proof of address other than a driver’s license and proof of each person in the household. For more information, call 209-331-7516.
LOEL Center: The LOEL Center has wish tags for seniors on its Christmas tree in the lobby. The community is encouraged to pick a tag or two and purchase the wish. The deadline to bring in gifts is Dec. 16.
Children’s Dreamworks: Children’s Dreamworks needs toys, clothes and bicycles. They will be helping the Miranda family and are searching for an autographed 49er jersey for Eden Miranda, who survived the crash that killed his family on Oct. 22.
“If anyone has any pull there, that would be helpful,” said Rita Sperling of Children’s Dreamworks.
The organization is also selling raffle tickets for a basket valued at $650. Proceeds will raise funds for food baskets for holiday dinners. Tickets are $2. The drawing will be held on Dec. 21 at A Flair with Hair, 222, S. School St. Those who enter do not need to be present to win. For more information, call Rita Sperling at 209-334-5357.
