Officers from the Lodi and Galt police departments in connection with other agencies arrested 27 people during the weekend in an effort to target gang members and violent offenders, according to Lodi police. Seven of those arrested are documented gang members, according to Sgt. Tod Patterson.
The multi-agency mission is designed to target and arrest gang members, violent offenders, people with active warrants and persons on probation and parole in San Joaquin County, according to Lodi Police Officer James Pendergast.
Eighteen people were arrested by Friday night, but the number went up to 27 by Sunday afternoon, Patterson reported.
One parolee attempted to escape his residence and hide in the attic, but he was found and arrested on suspicion of committing a parole violation, Pendergast said. In addition, two people on active parole were arrested on suspicion of carrying replica handguns, police said.
Other arrests included 10 on drugs or paraphernalia possession, 10 parole violations, five on warrants, three on probation violations and two for public intoxication, Patterson said.
Agencies participating in sting operationOperation Safe Summer, a program to arrest gang members and those with a violent history, was conducted by seven agencies during the weekend.
They are the Lodi and Galt police departments, San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office, county Probation Department, District Attorney investigations, state parole agents and Immigration Customs Enforcement.
