LODI — As of the unofficial final results of the November election, Measure S is still lacking the amount of votes needed to pass with a two-thirds majority. Currently, 66.03 percent (8,894 votes) have been counted as voting yes out of 13,960 votes. While 33.97 percent (4,576 votes) have voted no. It needs just a few hundred more yes votes in order to pass. However, the San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters still has 94,000 ballots to count throughout the county. The registrar has reported that San Joaquin County saw record turnout with nearly 70 percent voter participation, and also set another record of more than 30,000 vote-by-mail or absentee ballots. More than 24,000 provisional ballots were cast. The final vote will be certified by early December.

Measure S would introduce a quarter of a cent sales tax increase to fund the hiring of additional police officers and a gang intervention worker. It would also help restore staffing to Lodi Fire’s Engine 1.
