Members of the Sphinx Virtuosi are coming through a few Lodi Unified School District schools on their way to a concert at University of the Pacific on Friday.
Sphinx Virtuosi, a conductor-less orchestra made of the top alumni from the Sphinx Competition in Detroit, is made up of 18 young Latino and African American performers with a passion for classical music. The group was slated to play at Stanford University this week, so the Stockton Symphony called to see if they would make a side trip to Stockton.
“We wanted to show kids that you can do anything you want to do,” said Jan Stanley, of the Stockton Symphony.
Members of the orchestra will stop by the music programs at Bear Creek High School and Christa McAuliffe Middle School in the morning, then Millswood Middle School in the afternoon. San Joaquin Delta College and Chavez High School in Stockton will also receive a visit.
The concert is at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Faye Spanos Hall. Tickets are $10 for students and $25 for general admission.
