The Galt police officers' union is suing the city after the chief forbade an officer from taking a part-time job with another law enforcement agency.

Steve Denier, a Galt police officer and president of the officers' association, said Galt's police chief and city manager have also decided to not allow all but one officer from the department to have outside jobs.

This is not an issue of personalities...it is an issue of fair and equitable treatment. Unless they have a clause in their bargaining agreement that says they can't work other jobs...they can. If you don't want them to then negotiate in good faith.

I was born and raised in this area and know a good portion of people from Lodi and Galt PD. My parents are retired law enforcement. I respect them and all people who do that tedious job with little to no appreciation especially when we are at home tucked in our beds safe and sound and they are the ones protecting us! Glad WARVET is out of Galt, but hope that you're not in Lodi. Remember people who live in glass houses?!?

I agree with you Scott, you really know all about what goes on in galt. As for you skyle, you must either work for the galt pd or are married to someone who does. FYI, my son just graduated from high school works full time and has scholarships for when he starts college I guess that's what you consider a dirt bag. We no longer live in galt so there's no need to call your good old galt cops.

Hilarious! As long as 1 job does not ineterfere with the other or illegal, it should not even be a question. In today's economic times, it takes all we can in order to raise a family. In response to "ameriCAN", Galt officers may make that much money WHEN they are at their max salary, but you FAIL to acknowledge that they also pay 9% of their own retirement compared to almost all CA PD agencies. Check out the City of Galt website. These hero's do this career because their heart is in it and definately NOT for the money. In response to "WARVET", sounds like only ONE reason as to why your son is dealing with officers anyway?! You frequently make comments about their officers, but you fail to ever state that your son "just might be a dirt bag". Talking trash on your local PD, but who do you call when you need help?

There is absolutely ZERO reason why a public employee should not be allowed to supplement his/her income, providing there is no primary job interference or favoritism, ect. In this day of both public and private budget cuts....workers need to do whatever it takes to support themselves. Denier, I graduated HS with you...you were a solid guy then and hope you guys win.

My sons rights were violated by smith and several other officers of the galt pd, when he was beat up by them and lost most of the feeling in his left hand. So it's really difficult for me to think of their rights being violated. With the exception of Officers Fluty and Ramos, who are the best cops I have ever met, I can't even begin to imagine who would want to hire any of the other officers on the galt pd. Cattolico, who's a really great guy must be following the rules in regards to this matter and so should these officers.

Now I for one am not a big fan of some of our officers in our city. but I am in favor of them having another job outside of the police department. they are just like the rest of us, alot of us have issues due to current economics, I myself have two jobs, and neither interfere with the other. if the officers need another part time job outside of the department then so be it. the way I see it is if the Chief and mayor dont like it, then pay for the extras each and every officer needs. due to resent budget cuts, job loss etc they too need to do what is necessary for their families. I hope they win. Good Luck Chris Smith.
