The trial for a Galt woman accused of severely beating an elderly man on New Year’s Eve will continue in August, according to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.

Lisa Michelle Lea, 44, is charged with attempted murder and battery causing bodily injury for incidents that allegedly took place at the Royal Delta Hotel on North Lincoln Way in Galt late last year. The victim, a 71-year-old male, died at a Sacramento-area care home as a result of his injuries June 4.

Both the victim and Lea lived in the hotel and would sometimes share a room, according to the Galt Police Department. Police believe the incident started as a verbal altercation between the two that became physical.

The male’s unconscious body was found by Galt police officers Jan. 1 during a welfare check on the resident requested by the hotel’s manager. No weapons were found by police during their search of the room.

Lea’s next court date is Aug. 1 at 8:30 a.m. in Department 60 of the Lorenzo Patiño Hall of Justice in Sacramento.
