Hearing Thursday on Delta disaster plan

A congressional field hearing on potential flooding of the Delta will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the San Joaquin Council of Governments Building, 555 E. Weber Ave., Stockton.

The hearing, by the House Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management, will be hosted by Reps. Jerry McNerney, D-Stockton, and Jeff Denham, R-Turlock.

Speakers will discuss steps taken to prepare for the Delta, which includes more than 1,000 miles of waterways and 1,100 miles of levees. Ways each level of government can help form a preparedness will also be discussed.

Speakers will also include Ron Baldwin, former emergency operations director for San Joaquin County, and representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, California Emergency Management Agency, California Public Utilities Commission and the East Bay Municipal Utility District.
