During the Sandhill Crane Festival, you can sign up for a variety of tours at the registration table or online at www.cranefestival.com. The registration table will be open at Hutchins Street Square from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Below is a list of other events that are mostly free and all take place at Hutchins Street Square.

Friday

Reception: Celebrate the opening reception of the crane festival with an art show, Lodi wines from Woodbridge Uncorked wineries and hors d'oeurves. The Campbell Creek Gang will play bluegrass and traditional fiddle music. — 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Saturday

Crane dance workshop: Learn folk and cultural crane dances and watch a student perform a Japanese crane dance. Open to adults and children ages 5 and older — 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thomas Theatre.

Wild Things!: Come meet wild animals like raccoons and eagles. — 11 to 11:50 a.m., patio of Kirst Hall.

Native American flute performance: Listen to the Dan Ricketts perform this unique instrument. — 11:50 a.m. to 12:20 p.m., Exhibit Hall.

Nature printing for kids: Children can go do nature printing artwork during the festival. — 12 to 4 p.m., upstairs classroom number 2.

Birds of Alaska, birds of California: See a video of California birds breeding in the wild Alaskan tundra. — 12:30 p.m. to 1:20 p.m., Crete Hall.

Sandhill Crane behavior: Find out how cranes use body language, vocalizations and dancing to communicate with each other. — 1:30 to 2:20 p.m., Crete Hall

Wild Things!: 1:30 to 2:20 p.m., patio off Kirst Hall.

Photography: Birds in action: Talk with wildlife photographer Michael Corlew to learn how, what, when and where to get pictures of the birds in action. — 1:30 to 2:50 p.m., Thomas Theatre.

How to attract birds to your garden, but not turkeys and deer: Receive tips from Steve Stocking, who is a retired botany professor. — 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., Crete Hall

Owl pellet exploration: Children can dissect an owl pellet to find out what the bird has eaten by matching up bones to a small mammal bone chart. Parents should accompany children under 11, and participants need to sign up at the Oak Grove Nature Center table starting at 10 a.m. — 2:30 to 3:20 p.m., upper classroom number 1.

You can play the Native American flute: Dan Ricketts will teach participants how to make a nice sound on your flute. There will be 10 flutes available, or people can bring there own. — 3 to 4:40 p.m., Thomas Theatre

The wonder of bats: Meet live bats and learn about myths surrounding them. — 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., Crete Hall.

Sunday

The secrets lives of raptors: Learn about their behaviors and meet some hawks and owls. — 11 to 11:50 p.m., patio off Kirst Hall.

Nature printing for kids: 12 to 4 p.m., patio off Kirst Hall.

Taiko drumming: Learn about Japanese drumming as Denis, Linda and James Kurata perform a song. — 12 to 12:20 p.m., Crete Hall.

Conservation of Sandhill Cranes in California's Delta: Learn about the origin of the cranes and their wintering habits in the California Delta. He will also discuss threats to cranes and ways to preserve their habitat. — 12:30 to 1:20 p.m., Crete Hall.

Miss Dorothy presents: Children can listen to stories, play with the puppets and make origami cranes. 12:30 to 1:15 p.m., Thomas Theatre.

Owl pellet exploration: 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Decoy carving workshop for beginners: Learn how to carve bird decoys from wood. All of the materials, including carving knives and a study guide will be provided, and the workshop costs $25 for the materials. The dazzling dragonflies of the Central Valley: Learn about the most commons species of insects near Lodi and why they are beneficial. — 1:30 to 2:20 p.m., Crete Hall.

Build a pond for wildlife: Discover ways to build a backyard pond that will attract indigenous animals, like Great Blue Herons — 2:30 to 3:50 p.m., Crete Hall.
