Ten years ago, the city of Galt received an award for the greatest increase in the number of blood donors, with 83 percent of employees participating in an annual drive.

Next month, they will have a chance to better those statistics.

City Clerk Liz Aguire held a blood drive two decades ago for her friend Kathy Ellis, who nearly died during childbirth and required a lot of blood during her health scare. Ellis later moved from Galt to Acampo. Her son is now 20 years old.

“I realized what a great community service it was,” Aguire said. “We had a few breaks in the schedule, but have been doing the community drive regularly for about the last 12 years.”

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
