The city of Galt will save close to $100,000 annually by piggybacking on landscaping service contracts the Cosumnes Community Services District already subscribes to.
On Tuesday, the Galt City Council approved a $135,000 annual contract with Professional Landscape Solutions, Inc., for city streetscapes and a $171,240 contract with Procida Landscape, Inc., for city park landscape and maintenance.
Their services will be balanced with city employee work.
City Manager Jason Behrmann referred to the decision as “a fundamental change” in the way the city delivers landscape maintenance services on public property.
“We are saving $97,000 and are also increasing services citywide,” he said.
The landscape companies agreed to provide a reduced rate under previously agreed to contracts they had with CCSD. Among other duties, the companies will oversee daily maintenance of all 21 of the city’s parks.
Earlier in the meeting — the first in the newly renovated council chambers — the city council approved an addendum to the original construction contract for the new Twin Cities Road widening and roundabout projects.
They are budgeted at about $6.5 million, with a portion being funded by Sacramento County.
Construction between East Stockton Boulevard and Fermoy Way is scheduled to begin in August and is anticipated to be completed in spring. Some work could be performed during nighttime hours.
One completed, the project will be an improvement for both local motorists and travelers. But until then, there will be some minor disruptions during construction, Behrmann said.
“There will be disruptions, but mainly for commercial (businesses),” Public Works Director Steven Winkler said.
