At a public meeting Tuesday, Galt City Council members are expected to direct a combined $1,450 in discretionary funds to an account set up to train the Galt Police Department’s new police dogs.

Due to extensive community fundraising, the money council members previously earmarked to help purchase two new dogs for the department is not needed. They were recently bought with the help of the Foothills K9 Association and are currently in training.

Also at Tuesday's meeting, council members are expected to:

  • Approve the purchase of two paratransit buses at a cost of $158,000.
  • Set a July 16 public hearing to raise a number of levies in the city’s lighting, landscape and maintenance districts.
  • Receive a report from Mayor Marylou Powers regarding the city’s strategic plan.

The City Council meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the City Council chambers at City Hall, 380 Civic Drive, Galt.

A separate study session to hear a presentation from Public Works Director Steven Winkler on the draft Wastewater Treatment Plant Facility Master Plan will begin at 5 p.m. It is open to the public.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
