A Lodi man is in intensive care after he was attacked outside a Downtown bar this past weekend.

Tim Ergonis, 24, is at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento after undergoing emergency brain surgery.

Ergonis was with friends at Vintage Sports Grill on Sacramento Street on Saturday night when he stepped outside to get some air.

Some kind of commotion started, and Ergonis was struck and then kicked. Officers responded and found Ergonis on the sidewalk, critically injured.

An ambulance took him to Lodi Memorial Hospital, but it was quickly determined that he needed treatment at a trauma center. Ergonis was transported to UC Davis Medical Center, where he underwent emergency brain surgery to stop bleeding in his brain.

Friends with Ergonis at the bar said it was a case of mistaken identity.

"He was in the wrong place at the wrong time, an innocent situation," said Jolie Zins, his sister.

Ergonis graduated from Lodi High School in 2004, and graduated from University of California, Davis in 2008. He is employed as a substitute teacher in the Lodi Unified and Stockton Unified school districts.

Officers have made no arrests so far, but the case is still under investigation.

Those with any information regarding the incident are encouraged to call Lodi Crime Stoppers at 209-333-6771.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
