There was a solemn silence among the relatives, school staff and students at Heritage Primary Elementary School as they attended Tuesday’s memorial dedication for the Miranda family. Only chirping birds and rustling trees could be heard while visitors waited for someone to speak.

Eden Miranda, the lone surviving member of the Miranda family, who were killed in a horrific six-vehicle car crash on Ham Lane on Oct. 22, 2013, walked quietly up a large mosaic bench built in his family’s honor to light several candles. Each one was emblazoned with the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe, a Catholic symbol of a miraculous appearance of the Virgin Mary.
