Lodi Unified schools place at San Joaquin County Science Olympiad

Although they did not take the top prize, six Lodi Unified School District schools placed in the top 10 at the annual San Joaquin County Science Olympiad competition held Saturday.

Thirty-five schools and 59 teams of students in third through sixth grade from across the county participated in 24 different science events throughout the one-day competition. It was held at McNair High School in Stockton.

Top-scoring students and teams received medals, plaques and grants, in addition to participation zipper pulls. Here's how the top 10 teams ranked:

First: Brookside School, blue team, Lincoln Unified School District.

Second: Brookside School, white team, Lincoln Unified School District.

Third: Vinewood Elementary School, white team, Lodi Unified School District.

Fourth: Elkhorn School, blue team, Lodi Unified School District.

Fifth: Ellerth E. Larson Elementary School, purple team, Lodi Unified School District.

Sixth: Ellerth E. Larson Elementary School, violet team, Lodi Unified School District.

Seventh: Vinewood Elementary School, red team, Lodi Unified School District.

Eighth: Elkhorn School, gold team, Lodi Unified School District.

Ninth: Jefferson School, green team, Jefferson Elementary School District.

10th: George McParland Elementary School, black team, Manteca Unified School District.
