The month of May was declared Peace Officers Memorial Month. Police Chief Mark Helms said seven of the eight police officers killed in the line of duty in California since 2012 were shot with a firearm. Officers plan to attend state and county memorials next week.
Another request for bids to repair the pool at Hutchins Street Square must be sent out, since the team the city selected didn’t respond. The issue will return to council on May 21. Bartlam did not give a definitive timeline of the repair job.
Amy Young, a unit chief for the United States Department of Labor, will visit the WorkNet office on Oak Street on May 17. WorkNet, through the California Department of Human Services, provides resources to low-income residents who need help with job training and education.
The ordinance to formally end the Downtown Lodi Business Partnership was adopted.

Even fire stations with crumbling walls, rotten roofs and black mold don’t run cheap. One Lodi fire station has been sold for conversion to an engineering firm for $375,000.
In closed session, the Lodi City Council approved the sale of Fire Station 2 on Lodi Avenue to J-C Engineering based in Rio Vista.
