State Assembly District 9 candidate Jim Cooper is no stranger to public service, as his mother works for the state and his father served in the U.S. Air Force. Cooper prides himself in being a public servant for the past 30 years, he said.

Cooper, who lives in Elk Grove with his wife and four children, is a captain with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department and has served on the Elk Grove City Council since incorporation in 2000. He was the city’s first mayor and has been the only three-term mayor. He is currently the city’s vice mayor.
