More than 40 Galt Joint Union Elementary School District teachers and other staff raised just over $5,000 at last week’s Tip-A-Teacher event held at Brewster’s restaurant. Superintendent Karen Schauer was among those who participated by clearing dishes and washing tables.
The event was organized by the Re-Open Galt School Libraries group whose members have raised funds to re-open school libraries shuttered by the school board last spring due to budget cuts.
“Bravo to the community for understanding and supporting our students’ and teachers’ need for full access to school libraries,” group chairwoman Leesa Klotz said in an e-mail.
The $5,006.18 raised Saturday is nearly a third of the group’s year-end goal.
