David Davenport, a retired professor of history at Fresno City
College, explains the significance of rifled muskets during the
Lockeford Living History and Civil War Encampment at Lockeford
School on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011. Davenport explained how rifled
muskets allowed greater range of firing, thus rendering obsolete
then-current battlefield tactics that dated back to the Napoleonic
era.

Civil War history comes to life in Lockeford
The Lockeford Living History and Civil War Encampment was held
at Lockeford School on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011. Visitors talked to
military re-enactors about military camp life, food and medicine in
the Civil War era. The event was sponsored by the Lockeford
Historical Society and the 2nd South Carolina Volunteer
Infantry.
