A mysterious substance found in a mail crate at Galt Post Office on Thursday morning has resulted in a building evacuation.
At approximately 10 a.m., Galt police responded to the Post Office, where Cosumnes Fire Department hazardous material crews were also called out to examine an unknown blue powder that was found by a female worker who said it was mixed in with mail, according to Galt police.
As a precaution, Galt police evacuated the building and stayed on scene to direct traffic while HazMat investigators began conducting their investigation.
The woman who discovered the powder was transported to UC Davis Medical Center after she reported feeling ill.
According to tweets on the Cosumnes Fire Department Twitter account, the material was determined to be non-hazardous, and that it was most likely to have come from a piece of packaging that had been damaged during transportation.
The investigation has been shifted to the U.S. Postal Service, police said.
