Christine Leach will head back to Lodi court in February after two doctors deemed her competent to stand trial.

Leach, 43, will next appear in Lodi court on Feb. 15 — the same courtroom she initially appeared in back in October after her white Chevrolet Malibu crashed into a moving train.

Leach faces charges of attempted murder of her 5-year-old daughter and child endangerment after police said she drove her car into a Union Pacific train in Lodi on Oct. 7.

In December, Leach was evaluated by two doctors after her lawyer, Gregory Davenport, questioned whether she would be mentally capable to go to trial.

Two separate doctors chosen by the San Joaquin County Superior Court determined Leach was competent.

Davenport has continually maintained throughout Leach’s court appearances that she never intended to harm anyone and rather than seek incarceration, he is hoping she can be placed in a care facility that also provides counseling.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
