A former chairman of the San Joaquin County Agricultural Advisory Board and current board member for the North San Joaquin Water Conservation District has been named Agribusiness Person of the Year by the Lodi Chamber of Commerce.
Joe Petersen, who operates Petersen & Company, a local real estate firm specializing in agriculture, will be formally honored with the award later this month. The first-generation grape grower cultivates Petite Sirah, Carignane and Zinfandel grapes and Bing cherries in Lodi and Acampo.
A graduate of Oregon State University, Petersen has served on numerous boards and agricultural commissions in the area. He served as a program director for the San Joaquin Farm Bureau and helped strengthen the county's Right to Farm Ordinance. He is a former vice chairman of the San Joaquin County Agricultural Technical Advisory Committee for Agricultural Mitigation and a graduate of the California Ag Leadership Program.
He will be honored at the chamber's annual award dinner and celebration Jan. 27 at Wine & Roses Resort and Spa. The deadline to purchase tickets is Monday. Tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis and the dinner regularly sells out. The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $65.
