  of course it goes on everywhere.... people do business with and network with others they like and can trust. They network with these people.

  Unfortunately, as the relationship endures, it evolves into doing business with certain people because of that relationship instead of the quality of product and service.

  This is why I do not network and join any group. I consider merit and quality of service for a reasonable price first and foremost. I do not want people to do business with me because of who I am, but because I out perform my competitors

  I reread my answer as printed this am. I believe I acknowledged the presence of a GOB network and that for the most part it has been beneficial for Lodi over the years.

  It was good to see my old friend Doug Chaney there last night. Of course he was serving up 'puff ball" questions for Mayor Mounce. I thought he was banned from posting on this paper some time back. I guess he is the price we pay for freedom of speech. I will defend his right to utter foolish statements and serve as a plant at an otherwise worthwhile debate.

  These three answers to the "Good Ol' Boys Club" question are laughable. The only thing that has a hint of truth is the mention of the Rotary Club.

  Every community has a GOB club. It is good old fashioned business networking, combined with a huge amount of favoritism. You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours. It goes on everywhere, not just Lodi. Stockton has several "circles of trust."

  Local players might include Local Banks, Developers, Contractors, Real Estate Firms, City Hall, Winery Owners, Hotel & Restaurant Owners, Church Leaders, etc etc.

  Doug talking about which kid wore their bike helmet riding to school isnt a GOB thing. It is a "Liveable Loveable Lodi" thing. It's called Community. Same with Bob's example- although "knowing how much money you have" is a bit concerning- but that was about 30yrs abo.

  By not acknowledging a GOB simply means they recognize that they are part of the club.
