Beginning July 1 and beyond, all students entering the seventh grade will need proof of a Tdap booster shot before starting school, under new immunization requirements for students entering school in the fall.
All students entering seventh through 12th grades will need proof of the booster, an immunization against pertussis (or whooping cough). The requirement is for all students attending public or private schools. It does not, however, affect those enrolled in summer school.
It can be met by receiving one dose of Tdap vaccine on or after the child’s 10th birthday.
All students currently in sixth through 11th grade will need to show proof that they’ve received this booster shot prior to Aug. 1.
However, parents can opt not to have their children vaccinated for personal or religious reasons.
