Umer Hayat to be freed from jail

SACRAMENTO - A federal judge on Friday ordered Umer Hayat released from jail, 330 days after he was arrested during a federal terrorism investigation that ultimately led to his son's conviction this week.

The 48-year-old Lodi ice cream truck driver, whose own case ended in a mistrial when the jury deadlocked, will be released to home detention early next week.
