For the third year, people dressed in their absolute ugliest will dance to the Michael Jackson classic, “Thriller,” adjacent to the Lodi post office Saturday night and walk the streets of Downtown Lodi.

And for the second consecutive year, the Lodi Zombie Walk will feature a post-walk Zombie Pub Crawl and a burlesque show. The pub crawl involves special zombie drinks at Downtown watering holes.

The burlesque show this year has turned into a contest among anyone who wants to participate.

“All it is is an interpretive dance,” zombie coordinator Tom Presler said.

For example, last year, Presler and another participant danced to “Puttin’ On the Ritz,” made famous by Gene Wilder and Peter Boyle in the movie, “Young Frankenstein.”

Presler said he will focus this year more on the walk than he did the first two years.

“There are probably two different audiences on the walk -- participants and spectators,” Presler said. “We’ll make the walk itself more and more of a production.”

He plans to set up scenes throughout the route with zombie scenes especially for people who came just to watch the festivities.

Adults may participate in the Pub Crawl at several Downtown watering holes after the work, but Presler said he wishes there were more places for people not of drinking age to go.

“There are plenty of places to drink,” he said. “But if you’re under 21, where do you go?”

One possibility is Abundance Winery, which will have a Halloween party from 5 to 9:30 p.m. at 1150 W. Turner Road. The party, for people of all ages, will feature live music, food and costume contests. Lodi Zombie Walk participants will also be at Abundance to apply make-up on anyone who wants to become a zombie.

Visitors can either stay at Abundance until closing time, or they can be there for the first 90 minutes and head Downtown for the zombie walk.
