A young man was killed early Saturday morning when he was hit by a train at the Vine Street crossing, according to Lodi police.

The victim, believed to be 16 to 20 years old, was apparently alone when he was hit by the train shortly after 2 a.m., according to police Sgt. Eric Versteeg. The young man, whose name had not been released on Sunday, died at the scene, Versteeg said.

No other information was available.

Police have responded to several other incidents over the weekend, including an Eastside stabbing and four vehicle pursuits.

The stabbing, which took place at about 2:15 a.m. Sunday in the 200 block of Flora Street, resulted in the arrest of Pablo Palaganas, 41. Officers believe he stabbed a 40-year-old man in the leg, Versteeg said. The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to Lodi Memorial Hospital.

Additionally, officers were involved in chasing two vehicles and two bicyclists in separate incidents.

Officers briefly chased a car driving more than 100 mph on South Ham Lane at Oak Street at about 3:40 a.m. Sunday. Officers gave up the chase because it would be unsafe to continue pursuing the driver, Versteeg said.

On Saturday, officers tried to chase a vehicle after several people stole beer at Flame Liquors, 1301 W. Kettleman Lane, shortly after 4 a.m., Versteeg said. That pursuit was also terminated due to reckless driving by the driver, Versteeg said. The vehicle went north on Mills Avenue and west on Turner Road into the rural area, he added.

Police also arrested two men riding bicycles, one on Friday and one on Saturday. At 4:24 p.m., officers arrested Daniel Salazar, 34, of Lodi, after he tried to evade officers at Daisy Avenue and California Street, Versteeg said. Salazar, a parolee at large, was wanted on a warrant for his arrest on a previous offense and for reportedly resisting arrest, police said.

And at 9:21 p.m. Friday, police arrested Robert Goodman, 19, of Lodi, on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia, battery on an officer, resisting arrest and an outstanding warrant, Versteeg said. Goodman was riding his bicycle away from officers at Pine and Church streets, reports say.
