A local pharmacist was arrested Tuesday afternoon for allegedly stealing almost $8,000 worth of erectile dysfunction medications from the drug store that employed him.

According to Lodi police, 51-year-old Timothy Rishwain embezzled $7,902 worth of Viagra, Cialis and Levitra from Rite Aid on West Lodi Avenue over the last three years. He was booked into Lodi City Jail on charges of burglary, embezzlement and obtaining a prescription by fraud Tuesday night.

Rishwain posted bail of $130,000 Tuesday night and was released.

Rite Aid loss prevention determined Rishwain was stealing medications after discovering an inventory discrepancy for the erectile dysfunction pills in August, police said. Although those were the primary medications he was embezzling, loss prevention also concluded the suspect stole sleeping and anti-anxiety pills, as well as a cough suppressant and a diuretic.

Cpl. Dale Eubanks of the Lodi Police Department said it’s very unlikely Rishwain was selling the medication, and was probably stealing it for personal use. Rite Aid cameras repeatedly caught Rishwain pocketing a few pills at a time, and overall he stole less than 400 erectile dysfunction pills, Eubanks said.

“It’s not like he’s a drug fiend or common criminal,” Eubanks said. “It’s a sad story.”

Rite Aid corporate spokesman Eric Harkreader declined to comment on the incident, saying only that the company did not comment on matters “related to former employees.”

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
