A Lodi woman is in county jail after allegedly wrecking a stolen car while intoxicated and then entering a residence while fleeing from police.
Erika Ann Gibson, 27, faces multiple charges, including resisting arrest, driving under the influence and vehicle theft, for her alleged actions Sunday morning.
Gibson and friends had been drinking in Downtown Lodi when they went to a liquor store on Lockeford Street around 2 a.m., said Sgt. Doug Chinn of the Lodi Police Department. Gibson saw a car with an engine running and no one inside and drove away in it, he said.
Gibson crashed the vehicle at the intersection of Ham Lane and Lockeford Street shortly after and fled from the vehicle barefoot, police said.
Descriptions of Gibson given by witnesses matched a subject found on the 600 block of Gerard Drive, Chinn said.
Residents of a home on the street told officers that a woman matching Gibson's description asked to use their phone before entering the residence, police said. Officers were given permission by the owners to search the home and found Gibson on the couch, police said.
"She was pretending to be asleep and trying to say she'd been there all night," Chinn said. "The homeowners said they didn't know her."
Witnesses of the vehicle accident were brought to the residence to identify Gibson and said she was the one responsible for the wreck.
Gibson is being held without bail at San Joaquin County Jail. She is scheduled to appear in Lodi court Thursday morning.
