The San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office has identified a body found by a fisherman in the Mokelumne River on Saturday.

The Sheriff’s boat crew recovered the body of 28-year-old John Charles Garcia around 11 a.m.

A fisherman contacted the Sheriff’s Office after finding a body near a railroad trestle, approximately 200 yards north of the intersection of Mokelumne River and Awani drives, according to the Sheriff’s office.

The Sheriff’s Office said the investigation, which is ongoing, is classified as a “suspicious death.” The official cause of death is pending an autopsy and toxicology results.

Anyone with information is asked to call the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office at 209-468-4400.
