A child was injured Sunday night after running in front of a vehicle on East Vine Street, Lodi police said Tuesday.
The child, believed to be between 3 and 5 years old, was airlifted to a hospital but the injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, said Lodi Police Motor Sgt. Chris Jacobson.
The crash happened at 7:40 p.m. when the westbound driver she stopped at Central Avenue, then continued down Vine Street, where the road narrows, Jacobson said. The child emerged from behind a parked car and was struck by the passing vehicle.
The woman heard a noise but didn't see anything, so she initially thought an object had been thrown at her car, Jacobson said. The driver had slowed, and then she stopped when she saw a crowd gathering.
Police do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved, Jacobson said.
Further information was not available because investigating officers hadn't finished writing their reports and were off duty Tuesday.
