Six Aspire schools in California have one year to gain approval from local school districts or be forced to close.
A Superior Court Judge in Alameda County found that the State Board of Education improperly awarded Aspire Public Schools the right to bypass local school districts and open schools anywhere in California, without ensuring the company met state requirements.

On another thread, Matt Miller stated... Tea Party members cannot be our leaders. Their views are extreme and bigoted. They represent everything that is wrong with the Republican party.
However … Tea Parties all over the country have leaders who support charter schools and promote the educational standards these schools achieve.
How can Tea Party leaders be extreme and bigoted when it is the same people who wants charters like Aspire to succeed?
Kim, as a Tea Party representative, wouldn't you say that Matt's post in supporting Aspire and charter schools like them is a good thing yet his position of tea party leaders is misinformed?

Thank the Public Employees Unions for using their bullying tactics again. There is also a bill to limit the number of Charter schools allowed in the state, and another one to have School Boards have to deny these charter school approvals, if it impacts their ADA money- which they will.

This is really a shame. Charter schools benefit low-income and low-achieving students that are often left behind by public schools. The teachers' unions should be worried about making their own as effective as the non-union ones. If these schools end up getting shut down, it's going to be those that can least afford it that are hurt. We need to be promoting the expansion of these independent organizations instead of letting the protectionist unions shut them down.
