Now that the chilly, rainy weather has disappeared, a great way to kick off the summer season is to spend a day at the 151st San Joaquin Fair in Stockton.
Starting today, families can spend time in the sun by watching exciting horse races or experiencing the thrill of carnival rides like the YO-YO, which lifts guests high into the air to swing them around as if they are flying.
There are petting zoos offering families the chance to get a closer look at animals from goats to turkeys to dairy cattle.
After exploring the fairgrounds, take time to devour delicious food like warm churros or fresh kettle corn.
If the warm, glaring sun becomes too much, there are exhibits at the fair for families to leisurely explore, like art displays, old cars and enticing displays of baked goods for sale, from apple pies to different kinds of jams and jellies.
The fair also offers a "cool zone," where misters give families a place to escape the sun and relax.
Besides the carnival rides, horse races and exhibits, guests can sit back and watch live musical performances by a different featured band every night at 8 p.m.
The fair directors are excited about free admission to the fair this year.
