Two consultants hired by the City of Galt to perform engineering work on a pump station could receive an additional combined $182,000 in compensation for picking up the slack reportedly left by a similar firm, city staff said.

The supplemental contracts with Kennedy-Jenks Consultants and Stantec Consulting, Inc., are scheduled to be discussed at Tuesday's regular Galt City Council meeting.

The firms have been working on the Live Oak pump station since May 2012 when council members awarded the original contracts. At the time, a third firm, Marques Pipeline, Inc., received the largest contract in the amount of $4.4 million.

However, according to city staff, that company has failed to meet specific city-set deadlines and additional work has been performed by Kennedy-Jenks of Rancho Cordova and Stantec of El Dorado Hills.

The firms have requested the supplemental payments for work outside the scope of their original contracts.

Because Marques is beyond the July completion date specified in the original contract, it is subject to $500 per day in damages, which will partially offset the added expense to the city.

Much of the project construction is outside city limits, along Live Oak Avenue and Twin Cities Road.

The Galt City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the city council chambers at City Hall, 380 Civic Drive, Galt.
