After four months of searching, Lodi police this week arrested a man who is suspected to have been a participant in an August shooting that led to a lockdown of Heritage Elementary School in Lodi.

At approximately 9 p.m. Monday, Lodi police officers pulled over a white Buick LeSabre for a traffic violation on South Hutchins Street and Harney Lane, said Lt. Fernando Martinez of the Lodi Police Department. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers noticed that Lorenzo Lemuz, 20, was a passenger in the car, Martinez said.

Lemuz, who police say is part of the Norteño gang, had a warrant out for his arrest for assault with a deadly weapon after he was identified as a possible suspect in a shooting on the 400 block of Eden Street on Aug. 14, according to Martinez.

On Aug. 14, a group of teenagers, possibly gang members, were standing at the southwest corner of Eden and Garfield streets, according to a police report, when a vehicle headed north on Garfield fired gunshots at the group.

Though no one was injured, several cars were hit, and Heritage Elementary, which had roughly 50 students on its campus for its afterschool program during the shooting, had to be locked down.

Police arrested Lemuz, and he was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday in Lodi for arraignment.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
