Activities at the Galt's second-annual Independence Day celebration start at 10 a.m. today.

Most of the day's activities are free, and walk-up tournament participants for the co-ed volleyball, one-pitch softball, and single and doubles horseshoe tournaments will be accepted.

After the tournaments, families can gather on Veterans Field with picnics from 5 to 9 p.m. and enjoy live music by Inner Soul; food booths including snow cones, hot dogs and chips, sponsored by local nonprofits; a Kids Zone with bounce houses and a rock-climbing wall ($5 per person); and a freestyle skateboard contest for three age divisions, including ages 10 and under.

The fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m.

There will be also be an Old Time Country Fair exhibit, where locals have displayed their quilt-making and canning skills. Winners will be on display from 5 to 9 p.m.
