Lodi area Memorial Day services planned

Several Memorial Day services are planned for the Lodi area on Monday. They will be held in Lodi, Woodbridge, Lockeford, Clements and Galt.

Here is a listing of what is happening:

Lodi

9 a.m., Lodi Memorial Cemetery, 5750 E. Pine St. There will be wreath laying ceremonies. The speaker of the day will be City Councilman Alan Nakanishi. Post member Ken Kramlich will be serve as master of ceremonies and the Rev. David Hill, pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church, will give the invocation and benediction. The service will include an American Legion and auxiliary honor guard, a bagpipe medly by Bob Clemons, a vocal selection by Lee Mulford and "Taps," by incoming Post Commander Bob Gross. The "Missing Man" flyover will complete the program.

10:30 a.m., Cherokee Memorial Park, Harney Lane at Highway 99. The guest speaker will be Dr. Charles Roots, retired captain in the U.S. Navy. There will also be special presentations by the United States Marine Corps Color Guard, Karl Ross Post No. 16 Honor Guard, a walk of valor honoring 34 local combat veterans, a flag folding ceremony by the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps, a wreath presentation by local veteran organizations, a dove release and flyby "Missing Man" formation by the West Coast Ravens.

Galt

10 a.m., Galt Cemetery, 14180 Joy Drive. Keynote speakers are Galt Mayor Barbara Payne and Don Nottoli, of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors. Flags will be set up for veterans. Appearances will be made by members of the VFW and the police and fire departments and the California Highway Patrol officers.

Woodbridge

Noon to 1 p.m., 19071 N. Lower Sacramento Road, Woodbridge. Free lunch for veterans hosted by the Lodi Elks Lodge.

1:30 p.m., Woodbridge Masonic Cemetery on east side of Lower Sacramento Road, south of the Woodbridge Irrigation Canal. Guest speaker will be Lewis J. Grillo, past grand exalted ruler of the Lodi Elks. There will be an appearance by the honor guard. Wreaths will be laid and a prayer will be said.

Clements

9:30 a.m., Glenview Cemetery on Mackville Road, north of Highway 88. Coffee and cookies will be served. No other information is available.

Lockeford

11 a.m., Harmony Grove Cemetery, Locke Road, east of Tretheway Road. There will be a program by the Boy Scouts and members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars inside the Harmony Grove Church. There will be a brief presentation by a VFW member. The Boy Scouts place flags on graves.

They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl.
