Have you ever been curious about what local governing boards do? Are you curious what the Lodi City Council does? What about boards governing the Lodi Unified School District, Woodbridge Irrigation District, North San Joaquin Water Conservation District, Woodbridge Sanitary District or rural fire districts?
Ten lectures and discussions will be held on the structures of local government in San Joaquin County and policy challenges like water, education, public safety, land use and economic development they face.
Each week, beginning Feb. 7, community leaders will offer their perspectives and respond to questions. Guest speakers will include former Stockton Mayor Ann Johnston, San Joaquin Delta College President Karen Hart, San Joaquin County Supervisor Steve Bestolarides, Stockton Unified School District Superintendent Steve Lowder, Stockton Deputy City Manager Mike Locke, former State Sen. Patrick Johnston and Stockton Police Chief Eric Jones.
The series will be held Thursdays from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Central United Methodist Church, 3700 Pacific Ave., Stockton. The $125 fee will include materials and a certificate of completion for those who attend eight or more sessions.
University of the Pacific's Jacoby Center is partnering with the Center for Professional and Continuing Education and Stockton's Good Government Committee will sponsor the event. Robert Benedetti, political scientist and executive director of the Jacoby Center, will moderate the series.
