The driver of a sport-utility vehicle was injured Monday when he hit the center divide on southbound Highway 99 near the Morada exit before swerving back and colliding with 100 feet of chainlink fence and two trees. The accident occurred at around 10 a.m.
The driver, described as a man in his mid-40s, was transported to a local hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries, said Officer Dustin Jorrick of the California Highway Patrol.
Drugs and alcohol are not believed to play a role in the accident and the driver is believed to have been going the speed limit, Jorrick said.
Traffic on the highway was slowed as the driver received medical attention and the vehicle was towed.
