A man and woman are in custody after allegedly attempting to evade Lodi Police officers in a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle.
Juan Manuel Betancourt, 31, and Christine Aguilera, 24, were apprehended Monday morning after leading police on chase that reached speeds of almost 100 mph and ended near Flag City, said Cpl. Roger Butterfield of the Lodi Police Department.
The incident began at 7:30 a.m. when police were looking for a suspect in a hotel on Cherokee Lane, Butterfield said. When officers found a man matching Betancourt's description, the suspect and Aguilera allegedly took off in a stolen vehicle and the half-hour pursuit began. The two ended the chase near Flag City around 8 a.m., Butterfield said.
Betancourt was arrested for evading an officer, possession of a controlled substance, transportation of a controlled substance, parole violation and possession of stolen property. Aguilera was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, transportation of a controlled substance and possession of stolen property.
