Horizon Community Church advertised its Sunday service as being rated "R," but the three Porn Sunday services turned out to be a little on the mild side.
Pastor Tim Stevenson admitted that peer pressure in his teens got him to peruse Playboy magazine, but then his interests escalated to Penthouse and then to Hustler.
"I felt I was the only person in the world struggling with this," Stevenson told his congregation and visitors who wanted to hear what he had to say about porn addiction. "That kind of sewage will never come out of your head."
Stevenson didn't tell much of his story about his porn addiction prior to finding Jesus while he was in college like he did during his first Porn Sunday five years ago. Sunday's services focused more on several songs by the church band and a video produced by the www.xxxchurch.com website, which featured several current and former National Football League players who got rid of their porn addiction.
"I thought it was presented quite well," said Herald resident Rhonda Heil.
Heil's niece, Ally Drake, a Lodi High School senior, said she thought Porn Sunday was well presented.
"They did it in a fun way," Drake said.
Patti Rovegno, also from Herald, described the service as awesome.
"It's like ripping the Band-Aid off the wound that needs some light," Rovegno said. "You've got to be one step ahead of the game all the time."
Rovegno said her son was at a friend's sleepover during the weekend, and the mom who hosted the sleepover made sure she locked HBO and Showtime from her cable TV so that the four boys in their early teens didn't see any porn that night.
