LPD seems to have plenty of funding to waste except when it comes to actual crime fighting in the streets on the eastside. I sincerely hope the new interim chief changes the way the current dysfunctional and wasteful LPD operates.

I think if it cost 20-40 K for a police assistant that this dog is, it is a bargin. It cost more than 7000 just for one month of a policemans service. My only question is, is the dog required to belong to the police union, and if so, does the city have to pay the dog prevailing wage, health care and pension benefits... and, since there is ownership issues of this police assistant , is there a foced labor issue? Lastly, if the dog is a male or female , are their any sex discrimination issues that must be addressed?

Here we go again, $7,000 for a dog!!??!! Any mildly capable handler could get a dog from animal friends connection and make a great police dog. This falls in the category of out and out waste. IMHO
