DUI checkpoint planned for this weekend

The Lodi Police Department Traffic Unit will be conducting a DUI/driver's license checkpoint on Friday at an undisclosed location within city limits between the hours of 6:30 p.m. and 2:30 a.m.

Officers will be checking drivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairments. Officers will also check for proper licensing. They will strive to delay motorists only momentarily.

    These checkpoints have been shown to be failures time and time again. Here is an article that sums up the history of checkpoints and why they continually fail.

    Perhaps Mr. Dawes should get out and lobby for a change in the law so that unlicensed drivers can once again have their cars towed and impounded for 30 days.

    Suggestion: Contact your state legislator and complain.
