The Galt Police Department has obtained its second dog in the quest to rebuild its K-9 unit.
Jax, a 13-month-old Malinois, will be partnered with new K-9 Officer Dan Carter. Fellow new K-9 Officer Nathan Meyerdick received his dog, Hunter, last month.
Both were purchased through community fundraising spearheaded by the Foothills K9 Association. Fallen Galt K-9 Officer Kevin Tonn was working with the group to replace the department’s aging police dog, Bo, before he was killed while responding to a call in January.
Bo has since suffered a career-ending injury and has retired, as has Yaro, Tonn’s dog.
