Kenneth Deshawn Bailey, 36, has been named by the Galt Police Department as the suspect arrested in connection with a strong-arm robbery attempt in Galt on Tuesday. Bailey was arrested for strong-arm robbery and possession of a stolen vehicle by the California Highway Patrol in Stockton on Tuesday afternoon.
Bailey allegedly escaped in a 2002 Cadillac after attempting to take a woman’s purse west of the Galt Market on Tuesday morning, police said. The robbery attempt was unsuccessful, and a citizen followed the suspect’s vehicle and provided a license plate number. When the plates were checked by authorities, it revealed the car had previously been reported stolen, police said.
The other suspect in the vehicle, a white female, is not being charged and was released, said Lt. Jim Uptegrove of the Galt Police Department.
“She was a witness to the robbery attempt and stayed in the car,” he said. “She wasn’t involved.”
Bailey was also questioned about a failed robbery attempt at the Galt Raley’s in May and is not considered a suspect in that case, Uptegrove said.
